Since accepting the position as an assistant professor at The University of Texas at Arlington in 2004, David Hopman, ASLA has energetically pursued a faculty role bridging practice and research. The courses he teaches reflect his research interests in landscape aesthetics, plant materials and ecology, ecologically performative landscapes and computer tools. Additionally, he places a strong emphasis on the acquisition by students of the skills necessary for contemporary practice and their development of an informed personal design aesthetic.
Mr. Hopman has written a manuscript for a book on critical regionalism (publication pending), lectured widely on the topic, and uses it as a basis for the design studio he teaches in the graduate landscape architecture program at UT- Arlington.
Mr. Hopman holds master degrees from both Southern Methodist University and UT Arlington, and a bachelor degree from The University of Memphis. Practice experience includes Kings Creek Landscaping, Huitt-Zollars, Inc., RTKL, Mesa Design Group, Inc.,and a current small independent practice. He is a licensed landscape architect.
